Hey there! My name is Abby and I am the artist behind Big Top Folk. Big Top Folk is run by just lil old me.

I design and sew all of my designs in my home in Lancaster, PA. 

 

  As a kid I would make my own paper dolls and pop up books. During high school I loved art and fell head over heels with my fibers class. I took art more seriously and went to York College of Pennsylvania and got my undergrad degree in fine arts.  After college I still felt like I hadn’t figured out my niche. I loved drawing and still love to draw but I just didn’t know what to do with my art degree. I spent 8 years working day jobs from being a barista all the way to being an Optician. While I was selling eyeglasses I wondered if I should take my degree and use it to teach so I started substitute teaching to see if it was the right fit. In June 2022 I became a mom to a little boy and he influenced me to focus more on the joy of just existing and being. I started to let my art just exist for what it was instead of trying to force something that I wasn’t even sure of. I found a lot of new joy in children’s illustrations and toys. I had an itch to make some things for my son that I couldn’t find from other artists or in stores. While I worked as a substitute teacher I would draft and sew during the daytime with the little downtime I could get.
